2021-01-18 Grouse mountain snow report

It was a gorgeous sunny day. Some runs under shades were icy, but most of them had nice soft snow layer on a bit icy foundation. The condition at the Cut was great, except for the very bottom. Expo was more runnable than the past days too. Due to the strong sunlight, you may easily get too hot, so keep your jacket vents open.

Overall rate: 4/5 ★★★★☆

Closed runs:

  • Side Cut / Lower Side Cut (Blue)
  • Coffin (Black)
  • Inferno (Black)
  • Outer Limits (Black)
  • Chimney (Black)

Closed chairlifts:

  • Peak Chair

Open terrain parks:

  • Cut Park
  • Paradise Jib Park

We are craving for new snow.

The condition at Paper Trail was not good. The sunny spots were fine but shady areas had spikes of ices. They randomly either stop your board immediately or accelerate. You can't get an edge.

The Side Cut and its park were closed for rebuilding. I'm looking forward to trying to hit once it's done!

Thankfully the sun melted some snow at the Peak. Peak was fun to snowboard, particularly with the view! It would occasionally get foggy but then blow away just as quickly.

Compare this with the the post before the last post. The snow condition at the Peak look completely different. https://vancouversnowboarding.wordpress.com/2021/01/13/2021-01-13-grouse-mountain-snow-report/

Expo was unfortunately still mostly icy. Some shaved ice on top of the ice definitely helped. Stay in its sunny area if possible!
