The Cut (Green)
What’s to say about The Cut? At 855 meters in length with a 181 meter vertical drop, The Cut is Grouse’s most famous and only true green run. Considered one of the 100 best ski runs in the world, while only a green run I think The Cut offers something for riders of all skill levels, that’s if you can take eyes off the breathtaking views of the city below.
Not to be content with just being a straight green run, The Cut is also flanked by The Jump Line (featuring medium and large size jumps) on the left and on the right the Rookie Terrain Park (featuring rollers, small jumps and small to medium size box and rail features).
The Cut is also a good place for beginners to transition to after the magic carpet though can be very intimidating at first due to its varied steepness. And for more advanced riders that might be getting tired of straight Cut runs, you can take detours to Paper Trail, Side Cut and Upper-Buckhorn/Skyline runs that all end back the Screaming Eagle chairlift.
The Cut is by far the busiest run on Grouse so the snow can get quite a bit choppy by the afternoon so come early if you want that fresh corderoy.
Tip: There’s a small area past the jumps and to the left of the snowmakers that most people don’t go so the snow there can often be a bit better than in main part of The Cut. If the snow is good I often find it’s the best place to really rip it and it’s also a great spot for new riders to practice their skills on pow days.
Early season
In season 2020/2021, the cut opened til mid-station on 2020-12-14, and fully opened during Christmas week. It also gets foggy often.
Normal season
It still can get foggy when the temperature is high and humid, but otherwise it guarantees the best view and wide open fun ride.
